Diaper Rash IS A PAIN

Articles > Baby Articles > Diaper Rash IS A PAIN

For some parents, diaper rash isn't a problem. For others, the diaper rash can be mild and for others severe. For what ever reason, it is important that your baby doesn't suffer. Here are a few reasons why babies get rashes.

  • A milk allergy. Either from formula or a breast feeding mother's diet.
  • An allergy to detergent
  • The diaper stays on too long or not absorbent enough.
  • Antibiotics
  • Thrush or a yeast infection

Some parents prefer to use a home remedy for diaper rash or need a quick cure for their baby's severe diaper rash. For example, my son had a bleeding rash off and on for 2-3 years. The one product that helped in this severe case was a skin paste called ILEX. It certainly wasn't a home remedy as you had to special order this miracle cream. It was a life savor for my son?s bottom. My other son hardly had a diaper rash and when he did, a popular diaper rash cream was applied and within a few days the rash was gone.

A RECOMMENDATION:

If the bottom appears red and painful, avoid using scented wipies to clean. The wipie solution stings the bottom and baby will cry. I have used wipies only after washing them in warm water and rinsing out the solution. It helps but it isn't perfect. Don't ever wipe a bright red bottom. Wiping will cause more pain. Just dab here and there. You can use warm water and gently, as possible clean the bottom. For brave parents, airing out the affected area works wonders as well.

YOUR SOLUTION?

First find out the reason behind the diaper rash. Go see your pediatrician. You can talk to a lactation consultant as well if you are expecting it is thrush or a milk allergy.

Another option is preventative care. Wouldn't something natural and organic on the baby's bottom be nice? There are special soaps to wash your baby's bottom without all the additives.
